How the addition works

Adding 2:30, 1:45 and 0:50 gives 5 hours 5 minutes, 5.08 decimal hours or 305 total minutes. Note that 5:08 and 5.08 are different formats: 5:08 is five hours eight minutes, while 5.08 decimal hours is about five hours five minutes.

Yes. These are elapsed durations, so weekly or project totals can exceed 24 hours.
What is the difference between HH:MM and decimal hours?
HH:MM uses 60 minutes per hour. Decimal hours use hundredths and are common in payroll.
